$265,000 Merida Historic

Buy your own chunk of history

More Information

Older than La Ermita itself this building dates back to around 1720 (exact date is unknown) and is still going strong and in great shape. On the famous Calle 66 before street numbers were introduced, it was called ‘El Gallo’ as cock fighting used to take place here. This was the last building on the way to Campeche from Merida and took up multiple roles throughout the last 300 years of history. You cannot buy houses with such historic significance for such a price anymore.

The walls still have some of the original hacienda style arches and the ones that have been filled in can easily be reinstated.

This remarkable colonial even comes with its own Ceiba tree and well. The Ceiba is a sacred Mayan tree that connects heaven, earth and hell and every year for dia del muerte the parade passes by the building on calle 66 to the beautiful cemetery.

There is plenty more history around the architecture of this magnificent piece of history I would be happy to share with you.

This property is not for everyone but if you want to own an important part of Merida’s history please make sure to schedule a viewing with Thomas Korner on +52 1 9997487740 or email at thomas@meridayucatanrealestate.com
