The Melipona honey bee is a sting-less honey bee. Their honey some of the best in the world. The ancient Maya worshiped this bee.

People from all  over the world seek their honey for its  healing power. At one time at the turn of the century every home in the Yucatan had these bees. But since you can only harvest their honey once a year, the more standard bees took over. This tiny wonder of the Yucatan almost be came extinct. But with local villagers and people who love these bees they are making a come back.

Being allergic to bee stings, this is the perfect bee for me. I love my bees and spend hours watching them leave and return to the hive.
