Words can’t adequately describe this incredibly amazing property! Dating back to the 1800’s, Hacienda Masul was once part of a larger Hacienda in the village of Poxila in the Yucatan. It sits on 3.3 hectares which is approximately 8.15 acres. What distinguishes this particular hacienda is the huge canopy of trees, plants and shrubs that provide an abundance of shade so desirable in the hot summer months. The vegetation is varied and as unique as the property it thrives on. Trees abound with citrus, breadfruit and approximately 200 coconut palms. As you enter the stately portal you are transported to another era. Original mule drawn cart tracks still run through the property – a throw-back to the time when Hennequin, the green gold, was processed to produce rope. Considering the age, they are in amazing condition, almost totally intact.
There are six separate buildings that belong to the hacienda. Approaching the principal living area is a large fish pond with fountain that graces the approach to the three residencial buildings. There is the original main house with large kitchen and living space that has been nicely updated. A few steps away are two structures, each containing a bedroom/bath/sitting room. Between the buildings is a gorgeous filtered pool that was created from the original cistern. All structures have beautiful deep verandas, high ceilings and tall windows. These areas are move-in ready, just waiting for new owner’s personal touches.
Also on the property is a traditional Mayan house with thatched roof that is currently being used for a horse stable but totally habitable with minimal work. The great thing about all these buildings is that none of them require any structural changes – just cosmetic. There are two other structures built to replicate the original buildings that house two families who care for the property.
The hacienda is totally self-sustaining. It has its own transformer for electricity, 2 wells with pumps, gas hot water heaters, mini-split air conditioners in living areas and satellite TV and internet. There is an irrigation system that provides water to all the vegetation. There are pens and a large pasture for animals waiting for the gentleman farmer. LED lights illuminate the property’s entire perimeter.
The location of Hacienda Masul is ideal for an Inn or Bed and Breakfast, or just individual residence. It is only 10 minutes from the city of Uman with grocery stores, restaurants, shops, parks, and big outdoor market. Travel another 10 minutes to the Merida International Airport, making it convenient for arriving guests.
