Casa Catherwood, named after legendary English explorer, architect, and illustrator Frederick Catherwood, the Belle Époque manse is located in the heart of desirable Colonia Santiago. The building has been in magazines and promotional material, from “Hemispheres,” the United Airlines in-flight magazine to Expedia’s promotion for the city of Mérida.

An exceptional feature of the building are the two Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia) trees out front, a singular feature along Calle 59, which provide shade and privacy to the upstairs balconies that look onto the street.

Architectural drawings, providing specifications for each room and approved by INAH, are available for review. A completely modern bathroom has been built on the second floor terrace, creating an urbane and sophisticated second floor, adding to the building’s gracious living.

The second floor has been appointed with period antiques and contemporary modern pieces. The most exceptional item is the bed, which is where Frida Kahlo slept when she and her husband, Diego Rivera, were guests of Don Perfecto Villamil in García Ginerés, when the couple explored the Maya ruins of Chichén Itzá and Uxmal.
